Solving Severe Aluminum Sticking, Slag Build-up and Hard-to-Clean Problems on Molten Aluminum Launder Lining

Causes:

  1. Thermal shock and drastic temperature fluctuations causecracks, spalling, and loosening of the refractory lining structure. Molten aluminum then infiltrates the resulting gaps, leading to aluminum sticking and slag deposition.
  2. Poor anti-wetting property of refractory materials makes molten aluminum prone toadhering to the lining surface.
  3. Oxide slag and inclusions in molten aluminum continuously deposit on the lining and form hard slag crusts.
  4. Improper baking and preheating processescreate local cold spots, leading to the solidification and adhesion of molten aluminum.
  5. Improper mechanical cleaning damages the working surface ofthe lining and aggravates aluminum sticking and slag buildup.

Refractory Lining

Solutions:

  1. Adopt refractory precast parts with excellent anti‑wetting and thermal‑shock resistance for launder lining.
  2. Follow standardized baking and preheating procedures to achieve even lining temperature and eliminate local cold zones.
  3. Coat the working surface with special anti‑aluminum‑sticking coating to separate molten aluminum from refractory substrate.
  4. Improve on‑line molten‑aluminum purification to reduce oxide slag and inclusions flowing into the launder.
  5. Use mild cleaning methods. Avoid heavy mechanical knocking so as not to damage refractory lining.
  6. Carry out regular inspection. Repair cracked or spalled areas timely to prevent further penetration of molten aluminum.
