Project Background:
An aluminum casting plant previously used cast‑in‑place trough lining. Frequent issues like aluminum penetration, built‑up dross and spalling occurred. The V‑corner impact zone suffered heavy wear. Full re‑build was required every 1‑1.5 years, resulting in high refractory cost, long downtime and casting scrap loss.
On‑site Survey:
Our technical team carried out site survey. We collected operating parameters including molten aluminum temperature 730‑770℃, hourly aluminum flow rate, actual installation space and existing steel frame dimension. Weak points were identified: poor impact resistance at V‑corner, excessive shell temperature and unreasonable insulation structure. Short maintenance window required fast installation.
Custom Design Solution:
Main trough adopts fused silica precast blocks for low thermal conductivity and good molten‑aluminum resistance.
One‑piece large‑size V‑shaped precast block for impact corner to minimize joints and anti‑penetration. Si₃N₄‑SiC precast corner is optional for heavy‑duty working condition.
Optimized back‑up insulation and clamping structure to fit original steel housing. Modular design allows partial replacement instead of full trough dismantling.
Supporting joint sealing mortar and complete installation & heating‑up operation instructions provided.
Application Result:
Factory‑made precast blocks enable fast on‑site assembly. Service life reaches 2‑3 years. Aluminum penetration and dross build‑up are greatly reduced. Both refractory consumption and production downtime loss are cut down, meanwhile molten aluminum purity is improved.
